Coimbatore: Opposition parties in Tamil Nadu, including the BJP, have been demanding that the Tamil Nadu Government take full responsibility for the tragic death of the budding 17-year-old footballer, Priya, who was from Vyasarpadi in Chennai and lost her life due to medical negligence during a simple surgery of her leg.
News of the death of the young footballer due to the medical negligence of Government doctors in Chennai sent shock waves across Tamil Nadu. Priya was undergoing treatment at the Periyar Nagar Government Peripheral Hospital in Kolathur due to a ligament tear and underwent a surgery that was supposed to be simple but ended up being fatal.
Health Minister, Ma. Subramaniam stated that the two doctors who were found to have botched up Priya's surgery havve been transferred. Meanwhile, opposition parties, including the BJP, have been slamming the Tamil Nadu Government as being responsible for the death of the footballer.
BJP National Women's Wing leader and Coimbatore South MLA, Vanathi Srinivasan issued a statement condemning Priya's death saying, "When it was found out that the person who had come for treatment was a footballer, the hospital staff should have paid extra attention because athletes are the property of the country. The wrong treatment was done at the Periyar Nagar Government Hospital in Kolathur, the home constituency of Chief Minister M K Stalin.
I am shocked and saddened to learn of the passing away of 17-year-old footballer Priya. The negligence of the Government Hospital authorities and doctors is the reason for the death. This is also attributed to the scarcity of life-saving medicines at the Government Hospital. Therefore, the Government of Tamil Nadu and the Tamil Nadu Medical Department should be held responsible for failure to protect the country's property. Those responsible for this should be punished," slammed Vanathi Srinivasan.
